3rd Annual World Refugee Day to Focus on Asylum Seekers:
The Refugee Resettlement Coalition of Lane County, in coordination with Catholic Community Services, presents “Seeking Asylum—Here and at Our Southern Borders.”
This free public event takes place at First United Methodist Church, Eugene Oregon, 1376 Olive Street, Eugene, from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 20.
Featuring a talk on helping asylum seekers; a panel discussion on legislative, legal, and health issues related to asylum seekers; food carts; and music. Plus opportunities to peruse more than 30 information tables, make refugee relief kits, listen to stories of refugees and asylum seekers in Oregon, see a photo essay of local immigrants, get a henna tattoo, and sample traditional Syrian and Latino desserts.
A second event—"Witnessing at Homestead—The Largest For-Profit U.S. Detention Center for Migrant Children”—takes place on Saturday, June 22, at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Eugene, 1685 West 13th Avenue.
