Digital Wallet Work Day

Friday, January 27 at 12:00pm to 4:00pm

Lillis Business Complex, Room 285
955 E 13th Ave, Eugene, OR

Attend this Professional Edge workshop for a fully supported walkthrough of setting up and using a crypto wallet—your portal to everything in Web3. No prior knowledge is assumed or required.

A digital wallet is your portal to everything in Web3. In order to use almost any decentralized application, you need to first "connect a wallet." In this workshop, new users will be onboarded to their first crypto wallet. We will use the Polygon network, where transactions are very cheap, so participants will be able to participate at no cost. By the end of the workshop, participants will have completed the following tasks:

  • Send tokens to another user
  • Mint an NFT
  • Use OpenSea to view your NFT
  • "Burn" a token
  • Complete a trade ("swap") on Uniswap
  • Use your wallet to vote on a proposal

The workshop will also cover wallet safety tips and options for diving deeper.

Requirements

  • You must complete the steps to set up your Metamask digital wallet prior to the workshop. This should take approximately 10 minutes. Detailed instructions will be provided upon registration. You will not be able to participate if you have not completed these steps.

  • Though no prior knowledge or experience is required, we highly recommend you watch the Introduction to Web3 and Cryptoassets video series prior to the workshop. This 4.5 hour video series, led by University of Oregon Professor Steve McKeon, introduces the topic of Web3 and cryptoassets. The initial portion of the series covers fundamentals of blockchains. How they work, why they are important, and what the use cases are for this technology. The series then moves on to study Bitcoin, the earliest and largest asset in this space. After setting these foundations, the series examines challenges for technology, such as energy consumption and cyber security. Finally, the sessions in the later part of the series cover specialized topics such as decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs).
