Urban Teachers strives to combat the structural racism and inequality that continues to keep urban children from receiving the education they deserve. This is done by developing career educators that are committed equity, inclusivity, and ensuring that every student receives that great education. It’s that education that starts these children down the path to become forces of change in their communities and beyond.

Urban Teachers offers the tools to prepare new educators for success in the classroom. Participation in the program leads to a Master of Arts in Teaching from American University, which is completed in two years. Those two years include the opportunity to build your skills in the classroom, while receiving support and training from Urban Teachers along the way. After residency is complete, Urban Teachers will continue to support your development with an additional three years of coaching and mentoring.

When you join Urban Teachers you are starting a career in teaching with the skills to support high needs schools. Our teachers assume leadership roles early in their careers and help us make the case for better teacher preparation and educator accountability nationwide. Take the first steps in your career by applying to Urban Teachers today.
