Joe Sventek University of Oregon

Abstract:

In December 2022, UO announced the creation of the School of Computer and Data Sciences within the College of Arts and Sciences. For my sins, I was asked to be the interim executive director of the School, making it operational in September 2023.

I will start with how we got to this point, review the outcomes of the strategic planning exercise that was conducted over summer and fall 2022, discuss the set of 9 strategies that the School will pursue, and describe the work in progress to stand up the School by September.

The talk is a snapshot in time; I will endeavor to answer any and all questions during the talk.
