Tze-Yin Teo, assistant professor, Comparative Literature, and 2018–19 OHC Faculty Research Fellow. My project studies twentieth-century literature featuring translation between the English and Chinese languages. By writing in both languages, the authors I study forge intellectual connections between the United States and China, often out of sheer political exigency (such as immigration and exile) or simple philosophical and poetic curiosity. In gathering their voices, I am especially interested in how those transnational ties are built, sustained, and indeed reneged by the question of translation.
