A nervous, bedridden woman panics after overhearing a murder plot on a crossed telephone connection but is unable to persuade anyone to investigate in the all-time radio-theater classic Sorry, Wrong Number. First broadcast on the Suspense program in 1943, it is the show’s single most popular episode, and it catapulted actress Agnes Moorehead to fame. With it is the Suspense episode Backseat Driver (1949), in which an evil man mysteriously appears inside a couple’s car and forces them to take a hellish journey. The scary story was originally told by Jim and Marion Jordan (of Fibber McGee and Molly fame).
