Policy Brief Writing Webinar and Workshop

Friday, April 2, 2021 at 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Virtual Event

Educational scholars are often trained to write academic articles but not to translate or leverage our research for a broader audience of policy makers and the general public as a form of movement building. This webinar + workshop describes and illustrates different categories and elements of policy briefs, particularly on issues of education and justice, and offers tips and resources for writing and publishing them. After the webinar, we will meet in small breakout rooms to discuss, identify, and write key policy implications of our own current or recent research projects – a first step toward creating a policy brief.

The webinar and workshop will be led by Dr. Kevin Kumashiro.  Dr. Kumashiro is an internationally recognized expert on educational policy, school reform, teacher preparation, and educational equity and social justice.

1:00-2:00 p.m.: The first hour will be a lecture-style training with the esteemed Dr. Kevin Kumashiro titled: ‘’Writing for Movement Building: Tips for Writing Policy Briefs and Statements”

2:00-3:00 p.m.: The second hour will be an interactive workshop led by NEEP where you will work in a small group to identify and write key policy implications of a current or recent research project of yours. Please come with a research project in mind!
