About Jocelyn Augustino:

Jocelyn has been a professional photographer based in the Washington, D.C. area since 1992, blending her passion for photography with a deep fascination for politics. Her career has taken her from the campaign trail to the White House, capturing the energy of political movements and the gravity of leadership. She has worked with sitting presidents, documented historic events, and photographed influential figures in both politics and business—often in moments both grand and intimate.

Inspired by the master photographers of the 1930s Farm Security Administration, Jocelyn was drawn to the power of documentary photography in shaping historical narratives. That passion found a meaningful outlet when she began deploying with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Urban Search and Rescue teams, chronicling their response to some of the nation’s most devastating natural disasters. Her coverage of the agency’s critical work—including post-9/11 recovery efforts and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina—spans over three decades and is now preserved in the National Archives as part of the country’s historical record.

Jocelyn’s journey into photography began unexpectedly during her junior year abroad while in college,  in Paris. What started as a desire to extend her stay turned into a lifelong calling after enrolling in a photography course at Parsons School of Art and Design. A deeply moving documentary project capturing the life of a person living with AIDS in the late 1980s further solidified her commitment to visual storytelling. She later returned to Parsons for a summer program in Paris, cementing her path as a photographer.

Holding a BA in International Relations from Simmons College in Boston, Jocelyn’s early career included work for daily newspapers in Massachusetts, including The Fitchburg Sentinel, The Gardner News, and The Worcester Telegram. Since moving to Washington, D.C., her work has been published in leading outlets worldwide, including Time Magazine, The Guardian, USA Today, The Times of London, The New York Times Magazine, and Rolling Stone.

Through her lens, Jocelyn continues to document history as it unfolds—capturing resilience, leadership, and the human experience in its most defining moments.
