Join us for an exhilarating evening of music that celebrates cultural color, symphonic imagination, and vivid storytelling. The program opens with Dimitri Shostakovich’s Folk Dances, a whirlwind of energy and brilliance, followed by Juan Pablo Contreras’s Mariachitlán, a vibrant and joyful tribute to the traditions and spirit of Mexican mariachi music. Alfred Reed’s Variations on the Porazzi Theme of Wagner then transforms a simple melodic fragment into a sweeping journey of lyricism and dramatic depth. The concert concludes with Michael Daugherty’s Niagara Falls, a musical souvenir inspired by his childhood trips to the iconic landmark, capturing its sense of wonder, motion, and unforgettable spectacle. Together, these works create a dynamic musical tapestry that spans continents, cultures, and centuries.
