What comes to mind when you think of climate change? Oceans rising? Extreme weather events? Mass extinction?
The Center for Science Communication Research (SCR) Climate Change game night offers hands-on opportunities to explore representations of climate change through play and provide an opportunity for students from across campus to access the newly built student experience hub at Allen Hall.
Led by SOJC Media Studies Assistant Professor Maxwell Foxman, games available will involve the climate as a major component, from CO2 where players work with the UN to curb GHG emissions to Forbidden Island, where players must work together to escape rapid sea-level rise or try managing wildfires in a UO student-made prototype game.
Confirmed games include:
Master of Journalism graduate student Robin Fitzclemen's game: “Wildfire”
Settlers of Catan - Climate Edition
Free pizza!!!
Student Life, Entertainment, Lectures & Presentations, Presentation, Academic, Research, Free, Free Food, Sustainability
School of Journalism and Communication, Center for Science Communication Research
All Students, General Public, Families, Graduate Students, New Students, Faculty/Staff
Really fun, educational event!
VR is amazing. Combination of VR and game and climate change is much more interesting and impressive than other source of climate change.
