Join our book club as we delve into Learning Statistics with R by Danielle Navarro. This engaging guide simplifies the complexities of statistics using R, making it accessible for beginners and insightful for seasoned learners. Perfect for anyone looking to enhance their statistical skills and data analysis expertise!

We will meet weekly to go over the chapter and explore any activities- no need to have finished the reading every week. A free online version of the book can be found here. The book club will meet every Tuesday from noon to 1:30 in room B020 in Price Science Commons, from June 25 to September 10. Feel free to sign up for the entire sequence and drop into the sessions that interest you!

  • June 25: Background (Ch. 1 & 2: Why learn stats? & research design)
  • July 2: An Introduction to R (Ch. 3 & 4: Getting started & R concepts)
  • July 9: Working with Data (Ch. 5 & 6: Descriptive stats & drawing graphs)
  • July 16: Working with Data (Ch. 7 & 8: working with data & basic programming)
  • July 23: Introduction to Probability (Ch. 9)
  • July 30: Estimating unknown quantities (Ch. 10)
  • August 6: Hypothesis testing (Ch. 11)
  • August 13: Categorical Data Analysis (Ch. 12)
  • August 20: Comparing two means (Ch. 13: z-test and t-test)
  • August 27: Comparing Several Means (Ch. 14: once-way ANOVA)
  • September 3: Linear Regression (Ch. 15)
  • September 10: Factorial ANOVA (Ch. 16), Bayesian stats as time allows
