DESCRIPTION:The Kimble First-Year Teaching Award\, named in honor of profes
 sor emeritus Dan Kimble\, is jointly sponsored by the Office of Academic A
 ffairs\, the Graduate School\, and the Division of Undergraduate Studies\,
  and administered by the Teaching Effectiveness Program(link is external) 
 (TEP). This award is designed to recognize outstanding teaching performanc
 es by graduate employees (GE) leading a discussion section or lab in the f
 irst year of teaching\, or as the sole instructor for a course in the firs
 t year of teaching\, while maintaining a strong academic record.\n\nThe aw
 ard acknowledges a GEs investment in professional development. Recipients 
 of this award must demonstrate their commitment to excellence in undergrad
 uate education through participation in UO faculty development services\, 
 teacher trainings\, and workshops and classes which are open and available
  to all instructors free of charge. Full day teacher trainings\, offered b
 y the Teaching Effectiveness Program (TEP)\, satisfy this requirement for 
 first time teachers. These trainings provide basic teaching skills and pro
 vides an opportunity to practice teaching and receive feedback. Other comp
 arable UO teacher training sessions may qualify. If you did not attend tra
 ining through TEP\, please submit a description of the teacher training yo
 u attended\, including the number of hours and curriculum for the training
 .\n\nAll UO GEs who meet the criteria described above\, and who are teachi
 ng during the current academic year are eligible to apply for this award. 
 \n\nApplication\n\nTo be completed by the student:\n\nConduct and submit a
  midterm student feedback survey during week 4 or 5\; one way to do this i
 s through Canvas\, or you can save and scan a paper survey\n\nSubmit a cop
 y of the end-of-term ratings summary evaluation for ONE course/section tau
 ght during the 2016-17 academic year. Please include both the numerical re
 sults from your end-of-term evaluations and any student comments\n\nAttend
  the Teaching Effectiveness Program teacher trainings and report all teach
 ing development activities\n\nSubmit a one- or two-page statement of teach
 ing philosophy. More information about teaching statements can be download
