DESCRIPTION:A solo exhibition by Xinyu Liu.\n\n \n\n"As long as necessity i
s socially dreamed\, dreaming will remain a social necessity. The spectacle
is the bad dream of a modern society in chains and ultimately expresses no
thing more than its wish for sleep. The spectacle is the guardian of that s
 leep."\n\n \n\n- Guy Debord\, The Society of the Spectacle\n\n \n\nIn " Dre
amt I Dwelt in Marble Halls\," Xinyu attempts to reexamine the relationship
between dream and spectacle. These interwoven images reveal a desire to re
connect different social landscapes and complex relations of production thr
ough dreaming. The metaphoric hierarchy of images refuses to resolve to a k
nowable schema but rather indicates that such desire could transcend beyond
spectacles in our day-to-day existence. Signifiers of fragmented social re
ality are rearranged in this metaphorical dream\, seeking to transgress the
interlocking relations of political economy under the facade of spectacle.
The dream is another roll of the dice.\n\n \n\n///\n\n*Note: UO ID card wi
th building access is required to gain entry to Washburn Gallery.*
