The HOPES Conference is an annual event held every spring by the Ecological Design Center, a student group at the University of Oregon. Inaugurated in 1994, the conference is an opportunity for students, faculty, community members, and visiting scholars to discuss the relationship between ecology and various design disciplines, and how this connection can produce sustainable solutions to contemporary problems.
The focus of this year's conference is the phenomena of Displacement. We have invited a variety of professionals and academics from around the world to explore this topic. The conference involves a series of lectures, workshops, and panels that help us to further engage with our perceptions of displacement. As designers, thinkers, and scholars, we believe that we must reevaluate our ability to adapt to social, environmental, and economic displacement. We must find new ways to intervene, and continue to seek opportunities for growth.
