Graduate Writing Workshop: Writing with Style

Wednesday, November 20 at 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Good writers can write a grammatically correct sentence, but great writers craft their phrases with style and an authentic voice. Dr. Johanna Seasonwein, a professional editor and former university instructor, will share tips for writing interesting, engaging prose for an academic audience. We will talk about our reading audience and why it’s important to write with them in mind. We will discuss the twin demons of academic writing—the passive voice and jargon—and why they are to be avoided at (almost) all costs. And we will practice editing sample texts for as a way to refine our own writing skills.  RSVP here
