George Eliot's Middlemarch

Saturday, February 24 at 9:30am to 12:00pm

Knight Library
1501 Kincaid Street, Eugene, OR

Many consider Middlemarch the greatest English novel. We’ll examine its triple marriage plot, its quadruple examination of young people finding vocations, and its excursions into the darker areas of the ego, greed and murder, overseen by a complex, omniscient narrator—then judge: the greatest English novel? We’ll also read her short novel Silas Marner, and D. H. Lawrence’s story, “Daughters of the Vicar.”
