DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome Chris Poulsen to the geography coll
oquium for a talk titled “Simulating Past Warm Climates to Assess Earth
System Models and Inform our Future”.\n\nPoulsen is dean of the College
of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oregon. In addition\, he is a cl
imate scientist and professor of earth science. His research seeks to unde
rstand the causes of past climate change on Earth and what lessons they ho
ld for predicting our future climate. Much of his work uses advanced theor
etical climate models as tools for exploring climate processes and dynamic
 s. To do his work\, he collaborates closely with geologists\, environmenta
l scientists\, and ecologists. He has co-authored over 130 articles on top
ics such as past cold and warm climates\, climate-mountain interactions\,
and earth system modeling.\n\nPoulsen is an associate editor at the Americ
an Journal of Science\, and a former associate editor for Paleoceanography
and Paleoclimatology. He is also a fellow of the Geological Society of Am
erica and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.\n\nIn-p
