The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) University of Oregon Collegiate Chapter is coordinating a community fundraiser event to benefit Huerto de la Familia.  AFP is a professional development organization, funded through the Associated Students of the University of Oregon (ASUO), which aims to train young professionals through hands-on experience fundraising for a local nonprofit organization. For the 2014-2015 academic year, AFP has committed our fundraising efforts to benefit Huerto de la Familia.  Huerto is a local nonprofit organization which works to cultivate community integration and economic self-sufficiency for Latino families in the Eugene/Springfield area, by offering opportunities and training in organic gardening and farming and the development of food-based micro-enterprises.

On May 30, we will be hosting the second annual block-party fundraising event "Festival Latino" at Sprout Regional Food Hub in Springfield in which all of the proceeds will go directly to Huerto de la Familia.  The family friendly event will consist of the Huerto families competing in a salsa cook-off, live music on both an indoor and outdoor stage, children’s activities/games, local food and drink vendors, and salsa dancing, including lessons taught by a local salsa instructor.  In 2014, there were over 800 people in attendance and over $5,000 was raised.  Festival Latino garnered so much community support in 2014 that we are expanding into a block party by closing down A Street, expecting over 2,000 attendees and tripling our fundraising goal this year to $15,000.
