The Department of the History of Art and Architecture invites you to join us for our 2018-2019 faculty research colloquium series.
Associate Professor James Harper presents:
“Virtual Duchy: Francesco Mingucci’s Landscapes for Pope Urban VIII and the Devolution of Urbino”
This talk will examine a luxury volume of watercolor landscapes, prepared in the 1620's by the painter/cartographer Francesco Mingucci and presented to Pope Urban VIII. Set in the context of the politics of the day, Mingucci's volume offers an unusually concrete example of the "possession function" of the landscape view.
