Emerging Leaders Internship (ELI) Program Info Session

Get a competitive edge and attend the Emerging Leaders Internship (ELI) program info session to learn more about its selection process, how to apply, and tips for a competitive application. The Emerging Leaders Internship program is focused on building a more inclusive Portland metro area by providing pathways to leadership for traditional and non-traditional students of color and aspiring professionals. ELI is dedicated to improving racial and cultural diversity at the leadership level with Portland-area employers.

Two info sessions will be held on Wednesday, January 15. Both will be presented by Demetrius Rhodes, ELI Assistant Director for Scholar Empowerment.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Matches students of color with paid summer internships with top Portland metro employers and community organizations. Eli Internships provide access to a network of professionals of color, mentoring, and leadership development.
  • Open to undergraduate, graduate students as well as recent grads (within 1/yr of graduation) who call Oregon home and see themselves making Portland a place to build a career.
  • Internships are available in marketing/communications, tech, operations/projects, people/engagement, finance/accounting, sales/products and more.

 

ELI BRINGS THE FOLLOWING TO SELECTED INTERNS:

TRAINING AND PREPARATION: ELI offers support and training as you advance in the selection process. Applicants who advance to phase two will be invited to a mock interview event designed to build your skills, help you gain experience and grow your network. You will be able to practice your interview skills with professionals and receive feedback on the spot.

SUPPORT AND PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE : Your ELI internship includes mentoring within your host company as well as professional development workshops during the summer and gatherings with your fellow ELI interns. The ELI staff is your resource to answer questions and provide support and encouragement.

COMMUNITY AND NETWORK : ELI is a connection point for young, diverse leaders. Meet peers in the ELI family who will be there to support and inspire you through the summer and beyond. ELI gives you the opportunity to interact with professionals, make connections, and establish mentors as you shape your professional career path.

GET EXPERIENCE AND GET PAID : Your work, your skills, your time, your creativity–all are valuable. That’s why ELI internships are paid. Work full-time on meaningful projects that will help both you and your host company grow.

 

APPLICATION DEADLINE AND TIMELINES

  • January 31, 2020 - application deadline
  • Mock Interview Event (mandatory): March 7 in Portland - you will be invited to attend if you make it to phase 2
  • Company finalist interviews: April 1–30
  • ELI Intern Orientation: June 6
