Join us for an evening with Joy Mayer, founder and executive director of Trusting News, a national project helping journalists and the public better understand each other. Joy will share insights from her work with hundreds of newsrooms across the country—guiding them to make trust-building a daily part of journalism and helping communities reconnect around credible, transparent information.

This event isn’t just for journalists. It’s for anyone who believes that strong communities depend on trustworthy information, from local newsrooms to civic organizations, neighborhood associations, and community leaders who help residents stay informed and engaged.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • How transparency in reporting builds understanding and accountability.
  • How journalists can reflect the values and lived experiences of their communities.
  • How increased engagement and listening help communities discuss, deliberate, and solve shared challenges.

Schedule:

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The evening will feature a short talk from Joy Mayer, a Q&A facilitated by Oregon Humanities' Adam Davis, and a participatory activity exploring what “trusted news” looks like in Oregon communities, along with networking opportunities to build connections and community.

Why attend:

  • Learn practical approaches to earning and keeping public trust.
  • Connect with others who care about civic health and credible information.
  • Contribute ideas toward building a more informed, connected Oregon.

Admission: Free, but registration is required to ensure adequate seating and refreshments.

Questions?: Please contact Tai Le (tail@uoregon.edu), our Communication and Events Assistant.
