This presentation from scholar-in-residence Constance McKoy will focus on what culturally responsive teaching (CRT) is, why it’s important in music education, and how attending to 4 principles can assist music teachers in incorporating CRT in their classrooms and rehearsal spaces. Dr. McKoy is the Marion Stedman Covington Distinguished Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Music, where she also teaches undergraduate and graduate music education courses. She holds a BM in Music Education from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and MM and PhD degrees from UNCG. She has 19 years of public-school teaching experience as a general music teacher, choral director, and band assistant.

Dr. McKoy’s visit is jointly funded by the UO School of Music & Dance Education Area and THEME.
