This is the final recital given by Crystal Chu in fulfillment of the requirements for the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree. This recital is focused predominantly on keyboard and mallet work. Whereas her last recital focused on exploring the different possible roles played by the marimba on stage, this program consists of music either written expressly for Crystal, or chosen personally by her for its aesthetic appeal. Some items of interest include a piece by Jennifer Higdon, which includes extended techniques applied to the vibraphone, a snare drum piece by Evan Chapman, which includes a collaborative dancer (Sarah Ebert) as well as electronic accompaniment, and a marimba solo by Houston-based composer and UO alum Martin Quiroga Jr., dedicated to Crystal. The program will end with a jazz- and Latin-influenced marimba concerto in three movements by Eric Sammut.
