About Melina Mara
Melina Mara is an award-winning photojournalist whose career has spanned the last 25 years. The exhibit was later published under the same title. Mara has worked as the National Political Photojournalist at The Washington Post since 2004, where she pursues stories in the halls of power on Capitol Hill and the White House and the Campaign Trails of America, in addition to doing issue stories across the country and around the world.

The daughter of a CBS cameraman, and a passionate and supportive mother, Mara studied political science at Sarah Lawrence College. She explored law and teaching before pivoting to photojournalism, attending the University of Missouri School of Journalism as a graduate student. Prior to joining the Washington Post, Maya worked for newspapers and magazines around the country.

In 2003, Mara created the exhibit Changing the Face of Power: Women in the U.S. Senate, which was hosted by the Smithsonian Institution and was attended by over 500,000 people.

WPOW Photojournalism Exhibit
This event is part of a public expo in Allen Hall at the University of Oregon campus that features stunning, high-resolution photography by award-winning women photojournalists. The exhibit, sponsored by WPOW and Canon USA, captures moments from major national and world events such as the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the devastation of 2022's Hurricane Ian, and the fall of Kabul in 2021.

This is WPOW's 17th Annual Photography and Multimedia Exhibition. The UO School of Journalism and Communication was selected to be this year's exhibition site.

You can explore the exhibit by visiting the Allen Hall second floor landing, next to the central stairwell. The exhibit will close after March 22, 2024.
