Care Practices: An Exchange and Workshop
Feb. 21–22
University of Oregon, Portland
White Stag Block | 70 NW Couch St.
How is care sited and how can it be scaled? As part of the University of Oregon School of Architecture & Environment’s ongoing initiative in design for spatial justice, SAE Portland is hosting an exchange and workshop on care practices in architectural design, preservation, and landscape architecture. Examining social and material precarity together from the intimate to the systemic, the event will engage with the work of repair, relief, recovery, maintenance, access, and support toward more critical forms of sustainability. The program will include a series of guest talks and an SAE reception on the evening of Friday, Feb 21 followed on Saturday, Feb 22 by an interactive workshop in Portland’s Old Town Community with students and guests who will work to define a framework for future care-oriented pedagogy and action in the city and beyond. Both sessions are free and open to the public.
