Body Scanning Study Wants You

Do you struggle to find clothes that actually fit you?

Are you tired of returning clothes you buy on-line?

Do you wish the seat in your car was more comfortable?

Would you love to have more leg room in airplanes?

If so, then Sports Product Design Program Director and Associate Professor Susan Sokolowski is looking for your help to participate in the Size North America study. Sokolowski is leading the effort on the UO Portland campus, to host a data collection site for the study, which aims to identify the most current body dimensions of North Americans, ages 18–65.

The body scanning study is taking place from April 3–17. You will be paid $20 for your time. Your identity will be confidential.

Precise knowledge of human body shapes is indispensable for the development of vehicles and apparel. The body measurements and proportions of North Americans have changed considerably in recent decades. The anthropometric data and standard size tables currently available are from old data and can therefore only help the industry in a limited way.

Join us and get measured for a better fit at:

University of Oregon Portland Campus

70 NW Couch Street, Portland Oregon 97209

Your time commitment will be about 35 minutes. Including:

  • Explanation of study and overview of data collection (5 minutes).
  • Completion of the consent form (5 minutes).
  • Completion of questionnaire (15 minutes).
  • Body scanning data collection process (5 minutes).
  • Debriefing and departure (5 minutes).
