About this Event

The Women’s Center is proud to announce that Black Girl Dangerous Mia McKenzie will be speaking at the University of Oregon on March 7th.
Mia McKenzie is a writer and a smart, scrappy Philadelphian. She is a black feminist and a freaking queer, facts that are often reflected in her stories, which are literary and lyrical and hella quirky.
In order to prepare for Mia’s visit, the Office of the Dean of Students Women’s Center and Diversity Education Support program will be hosting a Black Girl Dangerous blog discussion group. The group will meet every Thursday from 4-5pm in the Women’s Center which is currently located on the second floor of EMU South.
The readings that the group will be discussing are listed below. The blogs are all quick reads and will be available to read ten minutes before the discussion begins as well.
Jan. 29: An Introduction to Mia McKenzie’s Work
Feb. 5: “4 Ways to Push Back Against Your Privilege”
Feb. 12: “Things to Stop Being Distracted by When a Black Person Gets Murdered by Police:
Feb. 19: “On Ferguson Protests, the Destruction of Things, and What Violence Really Is (And Isn’t)”
Feb. 26: “The White Teachers I Wish I Never Had”
March 5: “Am I a Bully? One Angry Black Woman’s Reflection”
