"Beach Atmospheres: Body Oriented Experience and Beach Resport Architecture in Mexico"
From 1920 to the present day, beach resorts in Mexico have offered constructed escape experiences in terms of “atmospheres:” ie: body oriented experiences inflected by literature, film, and television. Examining these “atmospheres” in relation to a number of cultural and architectural constructs offer insights into the experiences created. These works of architecture offer valuable lessons for creating memorable architecture; as well as cautionary tales regarding the cyclical decline of resorts, environmental challenges, and social impacts on local communities.
