Oregon Bach Festival presents Allusions
In his lofty and complex Symphony No. 41, Mozart seems intent on showing off his sheer brilliance as a composer. Universally known among English-speaking music lovers as the “Jupiter” Symphony, many believe the piece stands as Mozart’s greatest symphonic achievement and has attained the immortality of the god whose name it bears. The complete concert, led by OBF artistic director candidate Kazem Abdullah, also features Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1 and Jessie Montgomery’s “urgent, inventive” (The New York Times) commentary on The Star-Spangled Banner.
