Please join the College of Education for the second annual Dan Reschly Distinguished Lecture. This year's lecture features Alfredo J. Artiles, PhD who will be sharing his findings on disability intersections research.

The Dan Reschly Distinguished Lecture Series brings renowned research experts to the University of Oregon campus to discuss topics related to the prevention/intervention of problems in educational achievement, behavior disorders, disability status, and mental health challenges among children and youth.

Debates about disability intersections with race, language, and other differences have persisted for decades. Scholars have raised equity concerns about misidentification or the erosion of educational opportunities for learning. There is consensus that this knowledge base should be refined due to theoretical gaps and methodological limits. In this presentation, Dr. Artiles will discuss research evidence from urban and suburban school districts and review research with multilingual learners that make visible the role of systemic and contextual issues in shaping disability intersections. Building on these insights, Dr. Artiles will argue for a situated approach to study disability intersections and outline opportunities to build an interdisciplinary research program that better captures the complexities of this issue.
