This door-to-door off campus neighborhood outreach effort takes place at the beginning of the academic year, and represents a collaboration between UO Government and Community Relations, Dean of Students, and UOPD, as well as permanent resident neighbors, the city of Eugene staff and leadership, and Eugene Police Department.
During the event, leaders, and volunteers from the aforementioned groups will walk near-campus neighborhoods to welcome students back to the UO and the larger community, and provide them resources to support their off-campus living experience. Volunteers will be assigned to small groups comprised of a mixture of university, student, and community representatives and cover a set route in one of the near-neighborhoods. Volunteers will provide written and verbal information about renter rights and responsibilities, and engage in conversation about what it means to be a good neighbor and member of the community.
The event will begin in the late afternoon with a short volunteer orientation at the Central Presbyterian Church. From there the groups will disperse to their assigned routes, engaging with student-residents and permanent residents for two hours. Groups will come back (optional) for a light dinner and to debrief the experience.
