The 10th Annual Art History Student Symposium begins with the keynote speaker, Winnie Wong, at 6pm on Thursday in Lawrence 177. Her talk, Van Gogh on Demand: Valorizing the Copy in the Age of China addresses issues of authenticity and authorship in an art world that is more inundated with forgeries and factory produced non-art than ever before. Immediately following the keynote lecture is a Reception in the Laverne Krause gallery with the Art History Association's curated student art show Do You Copy That a visual exploration of irreality, inauthenticity and new media.
Friday in the Gerlinger Alumni Lounge the Student Symposium kicks off with the first portion of presentations exploring the History of the Copy at 9:30 am, Postmodern Copies at 11:10 with a catered lunch at 12:15 pm followed by Cross-Cultural Perspectives in forgery at 1:15.
