Oregon Brass Quintet | Live-streamed

Monday, October 5, 2015 at 7:30pm

Beall Concert Hall
961 East 18th Avenue, Eugene, OR

This event will be live-streamed from the SOMD website.

Tickets are available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office, 541-346-4363.

The OBQ, including Sarah Viens and Aaron Kahn, trumpets; Lydia Van Dreel, horn; Henry Henniger, trombone; and Michael Grose, tuba, will present an exciting program of music.

Repertoire will include “Music for Brass Instruments” by 20th century German-born American composer, Ingolf Dahl; 21st century composer Anthony DiLorenzo's spectacularly exciting “Fire Dance;” and “Libertango” by the well-known Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla.

Composed in 1944, “Music for Brass Instruments” was among the first original compositions for brass chamber musicians to call their own, rather than relying on transcriptions of other non-brass works, sparking
the modern revival of the brass quintet.

“Fire Dance” is a four minute showstopper from the pen of Emmy award-winning composer Anthony DiLorenzo. It is an exciting concert opener. Since its premiere, “Fire Dance” has quickly become part of the standard brass quintet repertoire.

Written in 1974, “Libertango” is among the more popular of Piazzola's works fusing traditional classical tango with tango nuevo, a style for which Piazzola is well-known.
