Nordic Film Series–Simple Simon

Friday, January 9, 2015 at 7:00pm

Lawrence Hall, 177
1190 Franklin Boulevard, Eugene, OR

The annual ten-week-long Nordic Film Series features a variety of wonderful contemporary films from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. Each summer, a shorter series highlights a particular director, country, or theme.

Each film is preceded by a short presentation about Norwegian culture and geography, as well as a brief introduction to the film. At the conclusion of the film, audience members are invited to participate in a short discussion of the film.

Simple Simon

A warm, funny, and emotional story of 18-year-old Simon who shares an apartment with his elder brother, Sam. Simon, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, needs rigid routine in his life—from meals to activities—and anything that upsets that routine sends him fleeing back into his own very private world. When Sam is dumped by his girlfriend, everything changes and Simon’s world suddenly becomes one of chaos. So he takes it upon himself to find Sam a new girlfriend, so things will settle back down. The only problem is, Simon knows nothing about girls or about love. (Sweden, 85 minutes)

This film series is organized and hosted by Whitey Lueck, and is offered as a noncredit course through University of Oregon Academic Extension.

Lawrence Hall is located in the central part of the University of Oregon campus, about 100 yards north of the intersection of East 13th Avenue and University Street. Please use the building’s south entrance just below the Architecture and Allied Arts Library, and proceed straight ahead to 177.
